Hyundai’s N series is a line of performance-based vehicles launching from the awesome success of Hyundai Motorsport.

History of the Hyundai N Series

In 2012, Hyundai Motorsport hit the European circuit and launched in Germany, re-entering into the World Rally Championship (WRC). Eventually, by 2013, Hyundai’s European Technical Center in the infamous Nürburgring race track is developing. Giving a place for their WRC Hyundai N models to test on one of the most difficult race tracks. (Hyundai N)

The “N” stands for not only Nürburgring, but also for Namyang, South Korea. This is where the heart of Hyundai’s Research and Development center is located. This is where the N series is designed.

For the next few years Hyundai’s i20 N WRC cars continued to place well in the World Rally Championship. After the creation of the Hyundai i30 N prototype, this model successfully completed Nürburgring’s 24-hour endurance race. A feat not many cars can complete.

After proven success, the first production car of the N series – the Hyundai i30 N – was born. You may recognize it here in the US as the Hyundai Elantra GT N!

Since then, the N series is developing to provide consumers with a high-performing vehicles. Ones that can perform well on your daily commute as well on the track. There are also N Line trim options on some models that add a sporty dynamic to the Hyundai you already love! The N series is still expanding and we are looking forward to what comes next from this series.

Are you getting ready to test drive some potential new vehicles? Here are some great test drive tips to help you get the best feel for the car, ask the right questions, and to make your car-buying decision easier for you.

Choose a Vehicle That Embraces Your Lifestyle

When considering different vehicle options, it’s great practice to understand what you need and what you want. There are many different questions to ask yourself when choosing the perfect vehicle:

  • “How many seats do I need?”
  • “Do I need something with a tow package?”
  • “Is color important to me?”
  • “Leather or Cloth?
  • “Do I need something with great fuel economy?”
  • “Should I go New or Used?”

Doing research and homework can make the decision much easier!

Make an Appointment

Making an appointment ensures that the car you’re looking at as well as other options will be ready for you! Many dealers (including our Speck Family Dealerships) have multiple lots of inventory, and to avoid any delay it is a great idea to set up a time to see the vehicle you’re interested in. This gives the salesperson a chance to locate the car, ensure it is clean, full of battery and ready to go once you arrive. If it’s on the showroom floor, this gives the team the opportunity to pull it from the floor and get it ready for your drive!

Before you Drive

Before stepping inside the vehicle, consider the basics of the vehicle to make sure it will work for your lifestyle. Take a good exterior walkaround of the vehicle to check for any bumps, dings, wear in the paint, and ask all the questions you need to get the most information. Examples of some great questions you can ask your salesperson at this time:

  • “How much does this tow?”
  • “Is this still under warranty?” (used)
  • “What is the warranty like?” (new)
  • “What’s the fuel economy like?”

Open the doors and trunk to see the cargo space and seat-folding options. If you have a car seat, look through the seats at the LATCH system, and it is a good idea to bring your car seat to test it out. If you have a large kennel for your pets, you can bring that for measure in the vehicle’s cargo area as well.

Stepping in the Vehicle

When getting in, get a good feel for the inside and make sure the entering and exiting in the vehicle will be easy enough for you. This is a great time to test the buttons, steering wheel controls and sound system (if that’s something you’re into). When on the road, you’ll want to have the volume off so you can hear how the car sounds when driving. Play with the technology a bit, and make sure it has anything you may want (i.e.Bluetooth, XM radio, WiFi Hotspot) Take a listen to how it sounds when you start it up. Does it have the features you’re looking for? Is it comfortable?

On the Drive

This test drive is for you and is meant for you to learn the vehicle and make certain that this will work for your daily drive and your fun adventures! If you live on a hill, or have a long highway commute, let your salesperson know that you would like to test the vehicle on a hilly road or at highway speeds. As you’re on the drive route, see how the car, truck, SUV handles when taking turns.Test how the steering feels, the acceleration and the braking all throughout your drive. And if there is anything you’re uncertain about, always ask questions! Our team at Speck Hyundai of Tri-Cities is more than happy to help.
